Tely Labs and Time Warner Cable Business Class to Offer ‘Virtual Visit’ Capabilities to Healthcare Providers

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF. – March 4, 2014 – Tely Labs, maker of the telyHD video conferencing system, has partnered with Time Warner Cable Business Class (TWCBC) to create a simple, secure and affordable home health monitoring solution to improve follow-up care for patients in their homes. This solution is currently under evaluation in patient trials for “Virtual Visits” — an easy to use telyHD video calling system that allows healthcare providers to offer quality patient follow-up virtually — which may contribute to reduced readmission rates and associated costs.

As a result of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, healthcare providers are reevaluating the way they are delivering patient care. Outpatient home care has been a proven option for healthcare providers for decades, but is not necessarily a cost-effective, scalable solution to address the long term trends of a growing patient population. Delivering in-person care at a patient’s home can be demanding on a provider’s time and difficult to coordinate with patient availability. Secure videoconferencing technology is a promising alternative, but until now deploying and managing a comprehensive solution in the field has been cost-prohibitive and a logistical challenge.

Tely Labs is partnering with TWCBC to deliver a comprehensive “Virtual Visit” solution that is currently being piloted with healthcare providers. The solution includes Tely Labs’ telyHD video calling appliances and telyMed™ software.

“Technology is key to addressing the increasing pressures of cost and compliance in healthcare,” said Sreekanth Ravi, president and CEO of Tely Labs. “While telemedicine is not new, an affordable and easy-to-use solution, coupled with TWCBC’s operational reach, is a genuine breakthrough. The system has the potential to help hospitals free up outpatient facilities, reduce missed appointments, reduce in-room care costs for readmissions and avoid penalties under the Affordable Care Act.”

Cost and care benefits

The “Virtual Visit” solution allows healthcare workers to stay in their clinical setting and communicate with patients to provide quality care. It is convenient and helps provide a more positive experience that can be less stressful on patients and providers. Caregivers can schedule regular appointments, much like a traditional visit to the healthcare provider, while patients can stay in the comfort of their home as the healing process continues.

“Our partnership with Tely Labs has enabled Time Warner Cable Business Class to provide a secure solution for hospitals and physicians that effectively engages with patients in their own home. ‘Virtual Visits’ can help reduce stress on a patient during the critical post-discharge period, while simultaneously enabling follow-up assessment and recovery tracking by the healthcare provider,” said Greg King, senior vice president and chief product and strategy officer at Time Warner Cable Business Services.
