Tely Labs Helps Hospice of the Western Reserve Connect Patients and Families with Easy, Affordable Video Calling

Redwood City, Calif. – May 15, 2014 – Tely Labs, the leader in simple, secure and affordable video conferencing systems, today announced Hospice of the Western Reserve has implemented easy, affordable high-definition video calling with telyHD systems for its hospice house in Westlake, Ohio.

Innovative healthcare providers are always searching for new services that set them apart as leaders in end-of-life care, and add to the well-being, comfort and peace of mind for patients and families. Hospice of the Western Reserve found that video calling would be their solution to set them apart and enable them to connect far-away family and friends with loved ones.

That was when they turned to Tely Labs’ telyHD systems, because the technology is easy to use and affordable enough to install in every patient’s room at their new state-of-the-art hospice house in Westlake to connect their patients with their families. As a result, Hospice of the Western Reserve installed telyHD video calling appliances in each of their 42 patient rooms. “It’s easy to install and set up,” said John Dietrich, a member of the Hospice Information Services team. “We just plug them in and enter the patient’s family’s Skype™ contact.”

“Our focus is on ideal patient care, so we’re always looking ahead and thinking about new and innovative ways we can improve the quality of life for our patients and their families,” says William E. Finn, chief executive officer of the Hospice of the Western Reserve. “Using technology to help families connect during the final phase of life is a gift that’s hard to measure, but it’s so meaningful. So often, family members live out of state, and in some cases, overseas. Being able to virtually visit their loved ones brings peace of mind and eases the stress about not being able to be there in person.”

Even though it was easy installation for Hospice of the Western Reserve, they also had to make sure the video calling itself was easy to use both for their patients and family members to make this plan effective. The telyHD friendly on-screen interface and straightforward 7-button remote allows patients to connect with a minimum of fuss. Because telyHD is Skype certified, friends and families on the other end of the call can connect using any Skype enabled device, or they can purchase their own telyHD to get the full effect.

“Our families are so grateful to have the capability of connecting with video calling directly from their loved one’s rooms,” Finn continued. “One of our patients used it to connect with his daughter in Abu Dhabi, who was unable to travel the long distance quickly enough to be with her father when his health declined. Thanks to the telyHD video calling appliance, the patient’s daughter could see him and interact with other family members she had not seen for many months, and was part of the end-of-life process in a way that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.”
